Anyone who knows Claire also knows that she has been asking for a dog for many, many, many years. We got her a few outdoor kittens, and took her to horse lessons, and enjoyed other people’s dogs whenever we could. We hoped these things would maybe satisfy her puppy desires.
They didn’t.
She continued dreaming and saving up for her own dog. She decided a cavachon seemed like a good fit for our family, and she researched that breed like it was her job. A couple years ago we found a breeder nearby, and she has been stalking their website ever since, every now and then showing me their available pups. This winter I realized that our family is in a good place for a puppy, and I really didn’t want to look back at this time and regret never getting one for Claire. So in June we visited the breeder and Claire found a dog.
To say she was excited would be an understatement. She decided on the perfect name, purchased everything the puppy would need, and anxiously started counting down the days until we could bring her home. She would be ready as soon as we got back from Ocean City, and Claire was telling everyone and anyone all about her new puppy.
While we were at the youth conference, however, the breeder called to tell me that unfortunately, Claire’s puppy had a bad reaction to her vaccinations and had passed away. This happens in about 1 in 1,000 puppies and it just so happened to be the one Claire had picked out. 😢 I didn’t tell her until we were in Ocean City, and while she was really sad at first, she did handle it well, and started looking at the website for other pups. We went back to the breeder as soon as we got home so she could find another one. And she did. The one she had picked the last time was actually a havanese pup, which was different than the cavachon she had originally wanted. This time around, however, she found the perfect little cavachon.
She had just been weaned from her momma, so we had to wait about a week before we could bring her home. Yesterday was the day.
She did so well on the drive home-I thought for sure there would be barf and poop involved. But instead she made herself comfortable on Claire’s lap and had nice nap. Claire just kept looking down at her and saying, “I can’t believe this puppy is mine.” ❤️
We took her right outside in case she needed to use the restroom….which she did….and then she chased the kids around for a solid hour.
I mean…..😍
She ate, and then was so sleepy from her big day.
And then of course I put a bow in her hair.
I don’t think this dog will lack attention.
So far, she is playful and sweet, loves people and loooooooooves running.
And I love that Claire’s dreams have come true. 🥰 Welcome to the craziness, Scout!
