Claire and Max (as well as Ben and I) are very into both Star Wars and Harry Potter. We read the books together and watch the movies together, and it’s a fun thing to share with just the “big kids”.
Several months ago Ben and I started talking about how much our kids would love the Harry Potter world at Universal Studios. And then I saw that DisneyWorld was opening up a brand new Star Wars land. And I knew that we had to make a special trip. Not only was I DYING to see both of these places myself, but I realized there won’t be many moments when our kids are into the same things and I knew we needed to take advantage of the opportunity.
We planned it all out and decided to keep it a secret, because we didn’t want Grace to accidentally hear the word “DisneyWorld” and realize we were going there without her. She wouldn’t have understood that we were doing “scary” rides and not princess meet and greets, so we didn’t let the big kids know where they were headed until we were in the car on the way to the airport.IMG_0847
We stayed at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, which was amazing. After looking around a little, Claire and I were ready to get cleaned up and hop in bed while the boys hit up the hot tub.
Since we were staying at a Disney resort, we were able to get in on the “extra” extra magic hours at the parks…so we started our day at 6 am. 😳I was basically like a kid on Christmas Eve and didn’t sleep much the night before, so I was ready to get up and go at 5 anyway. 😂 We started out at Hollywood Studios and headed right to Galaxy’s Edge. It was really neat coming into the park when it was still dark, because we were able to see everything lit up. The new Millennium Falcon ride did not disappoint. In fact, we loved it so much that we did it a couple times.
6 people board the ship at a time: two pilots, two gunners, and two engineers. You actually have a job while riding the ride and get to see how well you performed at the end. I would just like to note that Claire and I were excellent pilots.
We hung out in Galaxy’s Edge for awhile, and tried both the blue and green milk. Personally, I liked the blue better.
Then we met up with some of our favorite people/droids/wookiees:
After several more rides, we headed back to the resort for lunch and a dip in the pool since it was 100 degrees out. And no, I’m not exaggerating: Our next stop in “the most action packed day ever” was Magic Kingdom.
32,000 steps and countless memories later we headed back to the hotel and crashed in our beds with tired feet and full hearts.
