Last week Tess made several trips to Mayo. She endured a covid test, an ultrasound, an MRI, and numerous doctors and medical personnel looking her over. It didn’t come without tears, but overall she handled everything so well.
She did have a few things that she was really looking forward to the morning of her testing: popsicles, juice, and a bag of goodies from Aunt Kel.
We completed the ultrasound first, and of course took a spin on the chair.
Radiology gave her a stuffed bunny, coloring books and stickers, so she was feeling pretty good about life.
She was also a huge fan of the heated blankets. Not a huge fan of the watermelon-scented face mask or IV in her hand, however.
Her MRI took about 3 hours, and waking up from anesthesia is never fun. Thankfully we had an hour and a half drive home, and she was herself by the time we got back.
We went back the following day to meet with her team of doctors, who informed us that the next step is a debulking surgery. They will go in and remove a large amount of soft tissue that has been building in her groin/lower abdomen. We will meet with her surgeon and plastic surgeon on May 6 to further discuss the details of her surgery, but we’re hoping we can schedule it for next winter sometime.
Throughout this entire journey with Tessa, God has continued to show us that He has us in His hands. Tessa’s previous surgeon at Mayo was not comfortable with performing surgery on her malformation, so we assumed we would have to take her to Boston when it was time for surgery. When we met with her main doctor at Mayo for a check up a few months ago, she informed us that they had a new pediatric surgeon with a specialty in vascular malformations. This surgeon was very confident when we met with her, and I felt comfortable with her knowledge of what Tessa will require. Once again, God is taking care of the situation and gently reminding us that He’s looking out for us. And as usual, we are so incredibly thankful for all the prayers that have been sent up on Tessa’s behalf. Her doctors are still amazed at the progress she has made, and we know it’s because she has an army of faithful prayer warriors on her side. ❤️
