At the beginning of the week I have all these blogged posts planned….and then the week gets in the way and I’ve only blogged once. But maybe THIS will be the week I actually get my life together.
I wouldn’t hold your breath though.
First order of business: updates on this girl.
We had a visit with her surgeons on Friday, and I’m always thankful to visit Mayo during the warmer months. Most of our visits end up happening during the cold months, and Rochester in the winter is exactly what you hear: a frigid tundra that seems to get snow every day. We’re usually bundled up and hustling to and from the car to escape the cold. But this particular day was 77 and sunny, and we actually had time to kill between appointments.
Her plastic surgeon was pleased with how things look, but also ready to get another surgery scheduled. But I told him we need time to recover from this last surgery first. He completely understood, even though I know he’d love to just fix everything now.
Before we met with her pediatric surgeon, we grabbed some lunch, listened to live music, and cooled our feet in this huge puddle play area. That building straight behind them is Mayo, and we have looked down on this area from the 16th floor more times than we can count.
We then headed up to Tessa’s personal play area on the 16th floor. It’s in the corner of the dermatology waiting area, and there are only elderly people there. The carpet by the play area isn’t worn at all, and there’s never anyone in that section. Clearly we spend a lot of time there, as Tessa just makes herself right at home.
Her pediatric surgeon was also very pleased with how everything looks. She laughed at our plastics surgeon wanting to go back in, and agreed with us that it’s better to wait for (hopefully) several years before Tess needs surgery again. Praise the Lord.
Tess does have lymphedema in her leg, however, and will need to be fitted for a compression garment. We’re going to wait until after the summer to do this though, and Tessa will go back up to Mayo to have it done and meet with her entire vascular team. In the meantime we’ll just wrap her leg at night for compression. So for now- we get to just enjoy the summer, which we are very thankful for! 💛
