Our spring break started out looking nothing like spring. The kids were bound and determined to start the treehouse Ben had promised them, and several inches of snow wasn’t going to stop them. Yes, that’s them nailing boards to a tree as huge snowflakes fell from the sky. That night, everyone warmed up by the fire while watching Toy Story 4. Thankfully the weather improved a little, and Ben continued working away at their treehouse throughout the week. Our nieces and nephew came to visit my in-laws, who live right next door. Max and his cousin Jacob are two peas in a pod, and they were up and at ’em each morning. Our week consisted of all kinds of stay-at-home activities. From dress up, playing in the hot tub, board games, practicing the piano, living room picnics, barbies, roller skating, and watching Dude Perfect’s Quarantine Classic live each evening.
Our first official spring break didn’t go anything like what we had planned. But it will certainly be one that we’ll never forget.
As we begin this next week of isolation, I just want to encourage you to make the most of it. More time was always something I was wishing I had. More time to read/study the Bible, more time to do activities with my kids, more time to work on projects around the house, more time to just relax with a book, and the list went on and on. As I was reading and praying the other morning I realized that I had been given exactly that gift. Time to just slow down and BE. And while we will be doing some schooling, I am focusing more on the learning that occurs naturally. Through play. Through helping. Through working together. Claire and Max will remember this time of quarantine and isolation- and I don’t want them remembering it as a time of stress, frustration, and anxiety. I want them to remember it as “that time they had off of school for an entire month and had the best time learning and playing in different ways.” Will our days all be perfect? No. Definitely not. But I’m going to try my hardest to make them as enjoyable and memorable as possible.

Love your outlook on the situation! Funny, i had been itching to go on maternity leave Early to get more things done around the house that i soon won’t have the time/energy for. And though this isn’t the ideal way, it sure helps to have some positive outlook!

It does! There’s so much sadness/anxiety/uncertainty/fear right now…so it helps to also look for the good. ❤️ It’s great that you are able to get those things done now!
