Not going to lie, I am not missing the morning school rush. The kids weren’t exactly fans of me waking them up in the dark and they have been sleeping in each day. It’s been nice. I’ve decided to only do school work on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for now. I don’t want all of us to get burnt out so we’re just taking it slowly and doing what we can. Everyone needs to handle this homeschooling thing in the best way that works for them- there’s no right or wrong way to go about it. I thought I would share a few of the apps and websites that my kids have used for awhile just in case they would work for someone else. I’ve so enjoyed people sharing resources and ideas with me these past several days, so I thought I’d do the same!
Math:
Prodigy. Claire and Max love this game. They have been using it for years at both home and school and it’s always their first choice to play.
Xtra Math. This is not their most favorite thing to do, but it’s quick and it’s great for learning those math facts.
ABCya. Another favorite of the kids. It offers a variety of games for math, reading and more and they all enjoy it.
Bugs & Bubbles/ Bugs & Numbers. These apps are for younger ages. All of my kids loved playing them in Pre-K and K.
Reading:
Teach Your Monster to Read. This is for younger ages. Grace absolutely loves this game, and it’s usually the first thing she chooses to do on her iPad.
Dreamscape. Claire and Max love this reading game.
Social Studies:
The Oregon Trail. I love that this game has made a comeback. Claire and Max love it!
National Geographic Kids. This site has fun games and videos about animals and places.
Science:
Bill Nye the Science Guy. I loved watching Bill Nye as a kid, and now my kids think he’s pretty great too. I’ve heard the show he has on Netflix (which I wasn’t even aware of) is different and did not come with good recommendations. Just an FYI.
SciShow Kids. This channel on YouTube is another fun option for science videos.
If you have any educational apps that your kids are loving, please share! We’ll all get through this together. 🙂
