We decided to take a brief, close-to-home getaway this winter. Originally, the kids did not have any days off from school in January or February, so we booked a few days at Great Wolf Lodge in Minneapolis. Little did we know that the polar vortex and 60 inches of snow were on the way and would cause them to miss several days of snow during those months. 🙄 But we still wanted a break from winter, so we picked the kids up early from school on Thursday and headed up there.
Before we checked in to Great Wolf, we had some fun at the Mall of America. Rides, Lego Land, American Girl, and Rainforest Cafe started our staycation off on the right foot.

Each kid wanted an individual picture with their own unique pose. They had been saving up their chore money to buy something on our trip. Max went with a Lego set, Claire hit up Build-A-Bear, and Grace picked a stuffed animal at Great Wolf.
After dinner we checked into our room and went straight to the waterpark.
After a good night’s sleep in front of a warm fireplace and a relaxing morning, we were ready to tackle the water park again.
Tessa was definitely ready.
We spent 5 hours at the waterpark. There was hardly anyone there! The kids never had to wait in line for the slides, and went on them over and over and over again.
Some of us needed to recharge a little.
We headed back to the room to wash up and then tackled the ropes course, rock climbing wall, and arcade before eating at the restaurant.
While I put the little girls to bed, Ben took the big kids to see The Lego Movie 2. After such a big day, I have no idea how they stayed awake in those comfy recliners.
The next morning we relaxed in our room for a bit and then got on our way back home before the next round of winter weather hit us. We had such a great time- and the kids are already asking when we can do it again. 😏
