Somehow, with all the craziness, this school year absolutely flew by. It feels like just yesterday we were shopping for school supplies and getting ready to head back after a nice 6 month “spring break”. Here’s how our 2020-2021 school year shaped up:
Hybrid learning until January // Masks until March // Snow days became virtual learning days // No parents allowed in the building until April // Everything back to normal in May. I made a video to commemorate this unusual year:
One thing I definitely did enjoy about hybrid learning was all the extra time we had together- we had extra swim/snow days and took so many bike rides and day trips. Personally, I’d love it if they had every Wednesday off for the entire school year. 😉
As usual, no matter how much I wish it wouldn’t happen, everyone grew:
Claire successfully completed her first year of middle school. Her favorite part was being with her friends and playing town ball in PE. Her least favorite part was Social Studies.
Max’s favorite part of 5th grade was his field trip to Des Moines (his original answer was when school ended🙄). His least favorite part was virtual learning.
Grace LOVED 1st grade. Her favorite part was being with her friends and her teacher. Her least favorite part was having bloody noses in her mask.
Claire had an early out on the last day, so she brought a couple friends home with her to swim before we needed to pick up the other kids.
We picked up Max and Grace and swam some more, enjoying the sunshine and the fact that this weird year was behind us.

We had difficult moments for sure, but there definitely was a lot of fun thrown in there that I’ll always remember!
