Well hi! I’m finally back after a crazy fun holiday vacation (which I will recap this week), and, like everyone else, feeling ready for a new year.
I love the start of the year. Taking down all the Christmas decorations and giving everything a good cleaning, thinking about all the possibilities in the new year, getting back into a healthy routine after eating my way through the holidays, and trying to pick one solid “goal” for the year. A focus word or phrase to dwell on throughout the year.
2021 is still going to be a tough year- all of the issues of 2020 didn’t magically vanish when that ball dropped in Times Square. But I think it’s a good opportunity for us to evaluate our response to the situations around us. We were hit with many unexpected circumstances in 2020, and our first response to the very sudden change in our daily lives was probably not the response that we want to continue. For me, my responses throughout this year have been all over the place: fear, anxiousness, frustration, and confusion to name a few. These are not the responses that I wish to carry into 2021. Instead, I would like a shift in my focus. I do not want to focus on the very uncertain, scary circumstances happening in our world today. I cannot change them, God knows about them, and I am not doing anyone a service by dwelling on them. Instead, I would like my focus to be on this very simple, but very challenging question: “Did I do something to become more like Jesus today?” It doesn’t have to be some grand gesture- but in some small, simple way. Being patient with my children. Sending an encouraging text. Spending time in His word. Helping a stranger. Praying specifically for someone. Not to focus on my life in comparison to others, or to focus on circumstances that are out of my control, but instead to focus on doing things in my own life that help me to be more like Him. That is my goal for 2021. Along with not taking Clorox cleaning wipes for granted.

SO challenged and encouraged by this! Thanking God for another new year, and the opportunity we have to be able to become more like His Son.

Thank you for sharing this & for reminding us of what the proper perspective is. Also… being patient with your children might have hit a close nerve π
