Our kitchen has served us well, but I always knew that I wanted to change some things.
Sadly, this is the only “before” picture I could find of my kitchen. π€¦π½ββοΈ There’s a whole lot of Christmas craziness going on in this picture, but that’s a discussion for another day. Right now, we need to focus on the very dark kitchen. The island originally matched the cabinets, until one day I decided that I wanted a whole lotta black. π€·π½ββοΈ I like a black island, but there was just a lot of dark happening there.
The first big thing we changed in our update was our island counter. Our original countertop wasn’t long enough to allow you to eat at the island, and we knew we needed to change that.
We went with Alluring Quartz from Lowe’s, which I absolutely LOVE. However, our installers did a subpar job, so if/when we decide to change the back counter, I won’t be using them again.
I also decided that I wanted the island to be wood again, but a lighter color. With the help of Citristrip, I scraped off all that black paint and sanded her down. Which was a PROCESS. But totally worth it.
Next on the agenda were the cabinets.
We plan to change the floors someday, and it would all just be too much wood for me. And white cabinets are simply my favorite. I knew I didn’t want to paint them because 1- that’s a lotta doors, and 2- I knew they would eventually start to chip and it would drive me crazy.
I like the layout of the cabinets, and after using them this way for 12 years, I found that I didn’t want to change them. So I decided to paint the cabinet frames and order new doors. Lucky for me, my sister works for this remodeling company in Boston and I simply had to pick doors that I liked and send her the measurements. If you are in need of cabinet doors, I HIGHLY recommend Halco Showroom. The process was seamless, and the doors are exactly what I wanted.
She’s so bright now, and I love her.
There are still more updates to be done in this room, but I am loving the progress so far.
