Today I’m linking up with Shay and Erika to take a look at our desks. I feel like everyone’s desk situation probably looks different these days, and is probably being used by almost every member of the family. We have a designated office with a door- but it’s also home to the kids crafts and games. And in March, it also starting serving as a classroom. The kids had their Zoom meetings in there since it was quiet, Grace did her coloring pages in there, and Max would usually choose to do his school work in there. I’ve always liked having some toys and a coloring/craft station in there because the kids are occupied if I need to get some computer work done. And it’s a quiet place to work or play if you want some alone time but don’t want to be too far away from the action. 😉Ben made this desk in highschool, and it’s actually really nice! I planned on refinishing it one day, but that day hasn’t arrived yet. I actually haven’t done much with it at all since it’s hidden away in the corner of our office. But it serves it’s purpose: this desk holds our paperwork, office supplies, cords (SO. MANY. CORDS) stationary, and the 13,354 pens that Ben insists on collecting whenever he goes somewhere.
Speaking of which, I should probably organize the pen/pencil/marker/random item drawer.
We also have a desk area in the kitchen. This is where we put the mail and all those school papers (remember those days?). I use this desk area just as much as the one in our office. Probably because it’s in the kitchen, which is where I spend 99.2% of my time.
My desk essentials are:
- A calendar (my favorite planner EVER in the world is the Erin Condren LifePlanner. And then I also like a desk calendar- I absolutely love this one my cousin gave me!
- A good pen. I am picky about my pens, and occasionally Ben brings home a free one that I approve of. These are my favorite pens.
- A soft chair. Because when you’re old you need a little cush for your tush.
- Sticky notes. Because there always seems to be some little thing you need to write down.
- A place for everything. Whether it’s a pencil holders, paper holders, drawers, small containers, whatever- I do not like for stuff to be piled up all over the desk. Before I was a full time teacher I had a long-term substitute position, and the teacher I was subbing for did NOT care about an organized desk. I tried to let it go, but I ended up reorganizing her entire desk. 😬 The students said they had never even seen what the top of her desk looked like until I came along. Sorry about that Mrs. T.

I can’t wait to have a desk in our office/playroom!
Also, one in the kitchen is actually a great idea as our mail, keys, paperwork, etc ends up on the island and I have no where else to put it 😖
And the white cabinets still have me all 😍😍😍

Office/playroom is such a helpful space. And yes, I didn’t realize how useful a desk area in the kitchen is…but it’s the perfect catchall! You might need that talented husband of yours to come up with something for you. 😉 I still feel that way about my cabinets too…need to finish it up so I can do a final reveal!

I think I ended up organizing 90% of the classrooms I worked in as a sub. I could let it go if it was only for a day or two but any longer than that and my natural inclination to clean up just took over!

I agree! 😂
