Max’s birthday had all the essentials: balloons, donuts, simple decorations, a couple presents, a fun activity, cake, candles, and a whole lot of family time. And if this quarantined birthday taught us anything it was this: that it doesn’t take a big, heavily themed party with friends to make our kids’ birthdays special. Max thanked me over and over for this day, saying it was the best day ever. Don’t get me wrong- I love those big old heavily themed parties (and my kids do too). I love planning for them, decorating for them, and executing them. But there was something really sweet about this little family party, and my little boy came downstairs at 11:00 pm with tears in his eyes asking if I could leave his balloons up for a little longer. He loved the day…which is all that matters in the end.
Max is into Pokemon these days, and that was what we requested as his birthday themeand birthday present.
Glazed donuts are his favorite, so of course his day started with a donut cake.
The kids have been wanting to make tie dyed t-shirts, so we decided that would be a fun activity for Max’s birthday. And thankfully Tessa has gotten over her fear of blue gloves (that doesn’t mean she likes them blown up like balloons though, Grammy).
Next we all donned some Pokemon masks and headed outside to play. Max also showed up to his Zoom meeting in his mask. His favorite cake is a chocolate chip cookie cake, which are so nice and easy. We spent the evening playing his favorite games and then watched the Pink Panther with just him and Claire. Max gets so excited about things, and then experiences such sadness when that “thing” comes to an end. He was having a hard time going to sleep and feeling so sad, so he ended up having a sleepover in our room. ❤️ It was a pretty great day!
