Happy hump day! Today I’m linking up with Shay and Erika to look at our entertaining ideas. A topic I love.
Every year, we hold two Christmas parties- one for adults and one for teens. I love doing parties at this time because the house is already decorated, inside and out, which just leaves the food and the games. The past several years, we have chosen a dress up theme for the guests. It’s so much fun watching everyone arrive in their costumes. We’ve done everything from..
ugly sweaters,
to pajamas,
to Christmas movies,
Christmas carols,
favorite Christmas characters,
and people/things from the time of Jesus’s birth.
We have dinner first- usually a prime rib for the adult party and a simpler meal, like barbeque, for the teens (sorry teens…one day you’ll graduate to the prime rib😂). I like to have a charcuterie board out as people arrive, and I serve this pretty punch. I love to make dessert shooters the day before, so it’s one less thing to worry about the day of. These three flavors were: smores, white chocolate raspberry, and peppermint mousse. Then we play a lot of different games. Some minute-to-win-it style games, some teamwork games, some viscious, cut-throat, heart pumping games. Everyone is split into two teams as they arrive, and even if you are the least competitive person on the planet you will still be jumping around cheering your teammates on. Trust me. The teams earn points for each game, and we keep a visible running tally of which team is ahead throughout the evening. Since it’s Christmastime, each game is usually Christmas-themed in some way. and there’s usually a lot of laughter. Every year, we end with a yankee swap. I ask everyone to bring one wrapped gift per person, which an be anything, so everyone will leave the party with something. It’s a nice, calm way to enjoy dessert and end the party.
We look forward to these parties all year, and they never fail to bring out the crazy, competitive, kid in all of us.
